Harsh Shah is a Partner in the Tax practice of ELP and focuses on indirect taxes. He is a qualified Chartered Accountant. He is a law graduate from Government Law College and has also completed his Masters in Commerce.
Harsh has around two decades of post-qualification experience in indirect tax and handles all indirect taxes such as Goods and Services Tax (‘GST’), Customs, Foreign Trade Policy matters, Export Control regulations as well as pre-GST legislations like Excise, Service tax and Value Added Tax.
He advises various multinational and domestic companies on their day-to-day indirect tax matters. He has assisted several clients in their transition to the Goods and Services Tax and continues to advice clients on this law on a day-today basis. He has also been instrumental in filing several Writ Petitions in connection with indirect taxes and arguing them successfully before the Hon’ble Courts.
He has also been involved in litigations matters for clients right from enquiry stage till the Hon’ble Supreme Court. He has also been working with several industry associations on the key GST issues and assisting them in making representations with the relevant ministries.
Over the last few years, Harsh has been continuously featuring as one of the leading indirect tax advisers in the country by International Tax Review. He has also been recognized by Legal 500 as the Next Generation Partner. Harsh also features in the Forbes’ list of India’s top 100 lawyers. He is also recognized as Future Star for Tax by Benchmark Litigation Asia Pacific. Harsh also features as GenNext Leading Lawyer for Tax in Legal Era 2024 rankings. He has been recognized as Indirect Tax Attorney of the Year in International Tax Review Awards 2024.
He has keen interest in and writes articles which are published in leading tax websites and newspapers. He is a regular speaker on GST at various forums.
Prior to working with ELP, Harsh has worked with the big four accounting firms such as PwC and Deloitte.
