The Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, notified by MeitY on November 13, 2025, operationalise the DPDP Act, 2023 in a phased manner and mark a significant shift in India’s data-protection framework. While data-privacy obligations previously existed under the IT Act and SPD Rules, 2011, the new regime introduces a rights-based, consent-driven and security-focused architecture aligned with global standards. This development is particularly significant for Indian investment funds, which must now recalibrate their compliance frameworks within prescribed timelines.
