Amidst the fear of slowdown and global recession due to the covid pandemic, the Union Budget 2023-24 was growth-oriented, tax-friendly, and progressive. The Indirect tax proposals align with the Government’s key strategic priorities i.e., ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ to incentivize domestic value addition.

Against this backdrop, Economic Laws Practice (ELP)’s Partner Vivek Baj and Senior Associate, Nikita Brahmankar have co-authored an article titled ‘Union Budget 2023- A Balanced Scorecard’ published by TIOL PRIVATE LIMITED.

The authors in this article analyze the tax proposals, and amendments under Section 17(5) of the CGST Act which entail the scope of blocked credits under GST which intends to restrict the ITC on goods/services which are used or intended to be used for activities relating to obligations under corporate social responsibility (“CSR”) under the Companies Act, 2013.
