In their latest article for Hindustan Times titled “SEZ Amendment Rules 2025: Targeted and swifter approach”, our Partner Stella Joseph and Advocate Aradhya Singh, have discussed the Special Economic Zones (Amendment) Rules, 2025, notified on June 3, 2025.

The amendment brings targeted relaxations and operational reforms to cater to sector-specific requirements of semiconductor and electronics manufacturing by easing land norms and enhance operational flexibility, enabling easier setup and expansion of SEZ units for manufacturers in semiconductors, electronics, and related sectors.

The amendment marks a departure from a uniform policy framework, enabling targeted interventions through swift notifications until broader legislative changes are enacted. This aligns with India’s push to become a global manufacturing hub, reduce import dependence, and strengthen its role in global value chains.
