The GST Council reassembled in less than a month for its 51st meeting on August 02, 2023, to ‘provide clarity on taxation of supplies in online gaming’. The recommendations of the GST Council include a GST levy at 28% on the entire amount deposited by a player with the online gaming platform, bringing foreign gaming platforms into GST net, and making these amendments effective from October 01, 2023. The amendments have also been approved by the Union Cabinet and are likely to be tabled in the current session of the Parliament.
