In communication to the Retailers Association of India, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs has said that shopkeepers asking for personal information such as contact numbers, at the point of sale is a violation of consumer rights and constitute unfair trade practices. It aims to ensure that retail businesses treat customers fairly and respect their privacy.
