The U.S. Senate has introduced a revised version of the Sanctioning Russia Act (S.1241). The revised Bill reduces the proposed secondary tariff exposure from 500% to a maximum of 100%, while retaining broad Presidential discretion to impose trade measures on countries that continue to purchase Russian energy.

Although the Bill has not yet been enacted, it is relevant for Indian businesses, particularly those operating in the oil and gas, refining, shipping, banking, insurance and commodities sectors. The proposal also reflects the continued use of sanctions and trade measures as tools to influence commercial activity involving Russian energy.

Our latest sanctions update examines the key features of the revised Bill, its potential implications for Indian businesses, and the compliance considerations that companies should continue to monitor as the legislative process unfolds.
