On August 24, 2026, the United States expanded its stringent sanctions measures against Iran under “Operation Economic Outcast”. The measures extend the scope of Executive Order 13902 to include five additional sectors i.e., digital assets, technology, gold, aviation and shipping sectors, include sanctions against certain entities, individuals and vessels connected with Iran, and modify certain existing Iran-related general licenses.

Notably, the measures also include sanctions against four India-based entities and three Indian nationals linked to trade in Iranian-origin petroleum and petrochemical products. The India-related measures underscore the U.S. Government’s continued focus on third-country businesses and intermediaries involved in Iran-related transactions.

Our latest ELP Sanctions Update provides a high-level overview of the new measures and their key takeaways for Indian businesses.
