The Government of India has notified the Transition Facilitation (Quality Control) Order, 2026, effective June 25, 2026. In plain terms: for certain products, manufacturers supplying to DPIIT-permitted companies can now obtain BIS certification via the faster Scheme II route, even for products that previously required the more stringent Scheme I process. The mechanism covers toys, footwear, air conditioners, domestic appliances, furniture, hinges, and more. The catch? Critical details on eligibility, applications, and compliance are still pending DPIIT guidelines.
Our team discusses the new mechanism, the pending ambiguities, and the potential next steps for the industry to benefit from this relaxation for their supply chains.
