The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has unveiled the draft Digital Personal Data Protection Rules, 2025, marking a major step in India’s data privacy journey. These rules seek to operationalize the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, by establishing comprehensive guidelines for data processing, consent management, breach notifications, and cross-border data transfers. Open for public consultation until February 18, 2025, stakeholders are invited to review and provide feedback to refine these rules. As India navigates this evolving data privacy landscape, organizations must stay vigilant and adapt to the new regulations to ensure compliance, safeguard individual rights, and embrace emerging opportunities.
