India-EU FTA: The Deal Is Done,the Carbon Divide Remains

Our Partner Sanjay Notani and Economist Prachi Priya have co-authored an article titled “𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮–𝗘𝗨 𝗙𝗧𝗔: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝘀 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀” published in BW Legal World.

The article analyses the recently concluded India–EU Free Trade Agreement, which significantly enhances tariff access and deepens trade ties, while highlighting the unresolved challenges posed by the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM). It also examines the structural differences between India’s Carbon Credit Trading Scheme and the EU’s cap-and-trade system, the pricing mismatch that could impact Indian exporters, and the broader equity concerns under global climate principles.
