The Bombay High Court ruled that the Income Tax Department (ITD) acted improperly by unilaterally modifying its utility software to deny rebates on special rate incomes after July 5, 2024. The court directed the department to amend the Income Tax Returns (ITR) utility software and ensure the processing of all valid Section 87A rebate claims.
