Recently, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the scheme for Remission of Duties and Taxes on Exported Products (RoDTEP) which would replace the existing Merchandise Export Incentive Scheme (MEIS) in a phased manner. Given the current scenario, a robust RoDTEP scheme will definitely be a light at the end of the tunnel for exporters once economic activities resume. However, the success of the scheme in enhancing exports would depend upon the coverage of the scheme and the proximity of the rebate to the actual tax costs incurred by the exporters.
