In the second half of 2025, SEBI made two significant changes in its regulatory regime for AIFs. It mandated that angel funds can accept investments only from accredited investors. It also introduced a category of funds/schemes called “Accredited Investors only Funds” and gave such funds/schemes exemptions from a few crucial regulatory requirements. Since angel funds can accept investments only from accredited investors, it would appear logical that angel funds are also Accredited Investors only Funds” and entitled to the exemptions made available to such funds. However, it is unclear if SEBI actually intended it that way.
