Recently, India and the EU concluded negotiations on a landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA), widely regarded as the “mother of all deals”, marking a significant milestone in a nearly two-decade-long engagement and signalling deeper economic integration with one of India’s largest trading partners.

Following this development, the draft text of the India–EU FTA was released on 27 February 2026. Covering areas such as tariff concessions, enhanced mobility, digital trade, CBAM, sustainable food systems, and trade and sustainable development, the draft agreement outlines an ambitious framework for future cooperation.

In this update, we examine the key provisions of the draft text in comparison with India’s other trade agreements, as the FTA moves towards legal scrubbing and ratification.
