Our Partner Heena Chheda, has been quoted in the ET Wealth’s latest article, “Landlord wins tenant eviction case for providing signed rent receipts, despite tenant’s son not signing them: Supreme Court order explained”, by Neelanjit Das.
She noted that the Supreme Court restored the 2017 eviction order, ruling that the High Court had exceeded its jurisdiction and reaffirming the existence of a jural landlord-tenant relationship under Section 43 of the Karnataka Rent Act, 1999. She explained that rent receipts signed by the landlord serve as prima facie proof of tenancy, and producing them satisfies the initial burden under the Act.
