  • Here are the highlights from the fourth day of the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference in Abu Dhabi –

    In an implicit recognition of the deadlock at MC13, the WTO Secretariat has extended the proceedings by a day to reach some conclusions. After friction between the developed and the developing world, it is now seen that all’s not well amongst the Global South countries as well. Reports suggest that least developed countries (LDCs) are frustrated with India and South Africa after they blocked two motions backed by LDCs.

    Meanwhile, developed countries have put forth two proposals: one seeks to restrict unilateral trade-related environmental measures imposed by developed nations, while the other calls for a new working program on cross-border payment systems. However, both proposals have been blocked by the EU and the US. Lastly, Civil Society Organisations have claimed unfair censorship at WTO MC13.
