The Indian footwear industry, a dynamic and expansive sector, has achieved remarkable growth, solidifying its position as the world’s second-largest footwear manufacturing hub. The Government of India vide the quality control orders (QCOs) on different footwear products, brought them into the compulsory licencing net. However, several domestic footwear manufacturers belong to the unrecognised sector and given the strict requirements under the QCOs, the industry is fighting against the timelines while also catering to business expectations.

Given the above background, this article attempts to address key questions on the requisite requirements to obtain BIS license for the footwear industry.
