A recent incident involving an actor who was charged GST on a plate of fruit took social media by storm. As a follow on to the incident the tax authorities charged the hotel with a fine for levying GST on an item which is exempt from tax. The question which then arises is who takes the GST bill? The owner or manager of the hotel ? In light of this includent is it prudent to revisit the manner in which such risks are attributed under hotel operating contracts?
