Five years of GST a mixed bag, a multiplicity of notices troubling businesses

Jun 16, 2022

On the occasion of completion of five years of the GST reform on July 1, 2022 , Ritesh Kanodia, Partner at Economic Laws Practice (ELP) had an interaction with ETCFO on his views on five years of the GST reforms. Ritesh feels that while the reform has saved businesses the hassle of dealing with multiple provisions and filings, the multiplicity of notices from different States is troubling businesses.

He says, “Currently, as we understand, what is troubling taxpayers is the multiplicity of notices from different States, including duplicity in proceedings where parallel investigations are initiated by the Central tax evasion authorities across India, despite that GST department audits may be ongoing or scrutiny notices on the same subject matter has been issued across various States.”
