Infrastructure and Energy Digest – December 2018

Projects, Infrastructure & Energy | Jan 10 2019

Dear Reader,

At the outset wishing you a very happy, healthy and joyful 2019. Please find attached ELP’s monthly roundup of the Infrastructure and Energy sector.

On December 19, 2018 Niti Aayog released a document titled the ‘Strategy for New Indian @ 75’, which amongst other sectors, set out key provisions for India’s stressed energy sector. The update provides a detailed analysis of the these recommendations. In an attempt to facilitate widespread adoption of EV’s in the country, the government has issued guidelines and standards for India’s charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, which include, permission to have private charging stations at residences, delicensing public charging stations (PCS) (provided that such stations meet government’s technical as well and performance standards), prioritising provision of connectivity by the Discom licensee to supply power in the area in case an individual applies for permission to set up a public charging station and allowing charging stations to obtain electricity from any generation company through open access protocols. A detailed note on this has also been provided in our update. Additionally, important updates that have been covered this month are two important orders by the CERC and key policy amendments made by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

For each section, we have attempted to provide a supporting commentary to help the reader derive a holistic understanding of the issue at hand. We hope you find the content insightful and look forward to your feedback.
